S2 E26: Perfectionism, Anxiety & Brainspotting - Patrice Flanagan-Morris
Perfectionism is the belief that everything must be perfect all the time. A perfectionist sets impossible goals, and feels crushed when they are not achieved.
Perfectionism can look like:
- Having a very high standard for yourself. You should achieve goals faster and better than anyone else.
- Focus on results over the process itself - outcome focused
- Living in a highly critical state
- Beating yourself up for any mistake dade- making it hard to learn from mistakes because they can be so paralyzing.
- Your worth is tied to the outcome.
What is brainspotting?
It’s a mind/body therapy that works with your emotion brain instead of your thinking brain. When working with the emotion brain we are processing old narratives and old stories. We are reorganizing them in the brain and sometimes it looks like:
- Gaining perspective on a situation
- A new understanding on a situation
- Grieving to shift the past to stay in the past.
